You are in Casa Bárbara, with great views on the King’s Island – Isla del Rey, called so, since the King Alfonso the 3rd disembarked in 1287, when he reconquered the island from the Arabs.
During the British Domination, it was called ‘Bloody Island’ as it located a Military Hospital built by the British in the XVIIIth Century (Very interesting guided tours from 1st April to 31st October. Pick-up on Sundays at 8.45h from Mahón Harbour, Moll de Llevant, Tellow Catamarans. From 15th June to 15th September there’s a 2nd pick-up at 10.45h).
The closest supermarket is a 10 minutes’ walk away, and a little further you will find many local restaurants in Calesfonts, Es Castell’s Harbour. The shopping area of Mahón is also very close, just a 15 minutes’ walk from the House. The house is very much exposed to the North wind, called ‘Tramontana’, reason why it is very important not to leave the furniture spread on the terrace, but push everything towards the kitchen door. Please do also fold back the awning. We highly recommend not to leave food or breadcrumbs, as ants can organize themselves very quickly. You can watch National TV, or Satellite TV. There is also the possibility to watch DVDs as there is a DVD player. You will also find a radio-cd player, as well as a docking station to connect your smartphone and listen to your own music. The oven has a trick: you need to turn the timer on to ‘manual’ (little hand showing up) to make it work.
